Berlin-based legal tech startup LawX has closed a seed round led by Motive Partners, bringing its total funding to over €7.5 million. The company, according to its own press release, is building what it describes as an AI-powered operating system for law firms and notary offices.
The problem LawX is tackling is surprisingly unglamorous: roughly half of all work at a law firm is administrative. Think file management, contact and calendar handling, document processing, and billing. Much of this still runs on software from the 1990s. Meanwhile, demand for legal advice keeps growing while qualified admin staff are increasingly hard to find.
Existing AI tools for the legal sector mainly help lawyers with research and drafting. But the back office, where much of the daily grind happens, has been largely left behind. LawX wants to change that by pulling all core operational workflows into one AI-driven platform.
The startup was founded by Dr. Norman Koschmieder, who brings experience from top-tier firms like Hengeler Mueller and McDermott Will & Schulte, paired with scaling know-how from Berlin's tech scene. Since launching in November 2025, LawX has already built up more than €1 million in contracted recurring revenue and counts several well-known law firms and notaries among its clients.
Investors include Motive Partners, WENVEST Capital, xdeck, and SIVentures, alongside angel investors from both the tech and legal worlds. The breadth of the investor base is described in the press release as unusual for this stage and reflects strong confidence in the team's vision to set a new standard for legal software across Europe.
