Lockheed Martin Ventures backs Berlin's SPREAD AI

Berlin-based deep-tech company SPREAD AI has landed a major new backer. Lockheed Martin Ventures, the venture capital arm of the US defense giant, has added the startup to its European portfolio.The move comes as Lockheed Martin Ventures expands into the UK and Europe with a 100 million dollar investment commitment, opening a new office in London to get closer to the region's startup scene.
SPREAD AI's platform turns scattered engineering data into what the company calls a trusted digital thread, helping complex products move from development to production faster.
Dr. Dennis Göge, Chief Executive and Vice President Europe at Lockheed Martin, highlighted the deal on LinkedIn, describing SPREAD AI as the newest addition to a growing portfolio of companies developing technologies that can strengthen industrial capacity and connect innovation with real mission needs. He called it part of Lockheed Martin's long-term commitment to invest locally and collaborate with Europe's technology ecosystem.
SPREAD AI's Philipp Noll shared his own take on the partnership: "In software-defined defense, the real challenge isn't generating AI outputs, but providing trusted, traceable and verifiable context across the entire engineering and product lifecycle. That's exactly what we're delivering at SPREAD AI, and we're excited for our joint journey ahead and growing our transatlantic partnership."
The investment is part of a bigger push. Lockheed Martin Ventures, founded in 2007, has grown its total fund to 1 billion dollars and already backs more than 120 companies worldwide, with 25 added in the last two years alone.
With Berlin already home to a dense cluster of deep-tech and defense-adjacent startups, SPREAD AI's deal adds another data point to the city's growing profile as a serious player in the sector.
