€5M Seed Round Fuels AIRMO's Space-Based Climate Tech

Berlin-based space tech startup AIRMO has secured €5 million in seed funding to accelerate the development of what the company describes as the world's most advanced greenhouse gas monitoring system. According to AIRMO's press release, the round was led by Ananda Impact Ventures, with participation from Unconventional Ventures, Kopa Ventures, Pi Labs, Antler, Desai Ventures and several strategic investors.

The timing couldn't be more pressing. Methane is responsible for 30% of global warming, yet 70% of leaks go unreported. For energy companies, that's not just a climate problem: those invisible leaks cost the industry around $30 billion every year.

AIRMO's approach is technically ambitious. The startup has developed an active spaceborne instrument that combines a SWIR imager and micro-LiDAR into a compact satellite platform, delivering accuracy and affordability that existing solutions can't match. The technology is already operational commercially, deployed on drones and aircraft across Europe, Central Asia and the MENA region. Clients include energy giant Uniper and international validator OSCE.

The fresh capital will go toward launching AIRMO's first satellite in 2027, scaling airborne monitoring campaigns and establishing a presence in the MENA market.

At the helm is CEO Daria Stepanova, a rocket scientist with 12 satellite launches under her belt. "With this funding, we move beyond validation into continuous monitoring at scale," she said.

Berlin continues to prove itself as a serious hub for deep tech and climate innovation, and AIRMO is a compelling example of what happens when space expertise meets urgent global need.
