Berlin's Layla Hits $1B in AI-Planned Trip Value

Layla AI trip planning app

Layla is an AI-powered travel agent that helps travelers discover, plan, and book trips through conversation.

Berlin-based AI travel platform Layla has crossed $1 billion in planned trip value across 30 million travel messages from over 5 million users. That's not just a milestone; it's a signal of where the travel industry is heading.

According to a company press release, Layla has generated more than 2 million personalized itineraries, and the numbers tell an interesting story: 40% of users now start planning without even naming a destination. That's up from just 12% in 2023. Instead, travelers increasingly open with context like family dynamics, mobility needs, dietary restrictions, or budget constraints, and let the destination follow from there.

CEO Saad Saeed puts it bluntly: platforms like Expedia, Booking.com, and Google Travel are asking the wrong question. "Travelers today lead with who they are and what they need," he said. "The destination becomes an output of those constraints, not the input."

To scale this approach, Layla has closed a strategic seven-figure investment round. New backers include United Airlines Ventures, Baidu Capital, and INCE Capital, joining existing investors M13, Firstminute Capital, and SparkLabs. The funding will go toward expanding what Layla calls its "identity-first" infrastructure for conversational trip planning worldwide.

The platform already maps more than 1,400 traveler micro-segments, from accessibility needs to aesthetic preferences, something traditional search filters simply cannot handle. What used to require dozens of browser tabs and hours of research now happens in a single conversation.

Berlin continues to produce startups that challenge established global industries. Layla looks like one to watch.
