Berlin-based AgTech startup hexafarms has secured €4.8 million in seed funding to expand its AI-powered greenhouse monitoring platform and grow its presence across Europe. According to reporting by Startbase, the financing round was led by Ananda Impact Ventures and Green Generation Fund, with participation from Grey Silo Ventures, Better Ventures, Speedinvest, Mudcake and Techstars.

hexafarms combines wireless sensors, autonomous robots and AI software to help professional fruit and vegetable growers monitor crops more efficiently. Sensors collect data every five minutes, measuring factors such as climate, light and substrate conditions. The platform processes more than 70 parameters and continuously updates harvest forecasts.

Robots play an important role as well. They are designed to inspect every plant daily and to identify signs of disease or pest infestations at an early stage. The company's AI models currently support around 50 crop varieties, including tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, eggplants and berries.

According to hexafarms, its technology is already used by more than 50 farms in 13 countries. Customers include fruit and vegetable supplier SanLucar as well as producer cooperatives Elo and Royal ZON. The company says its systems have been used to monitor fruit and vegetable production worth more than €300 million this year.

The new funding will be used to further develop hardware, wireless sensor technology, harvest forecasting capabilities and AI models. At the same time, hexafarms plans to strengthen its presence in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the Benelux countries and Spain, with Berlin as a home base for expanding agricultural technology innovation across Europe.
